Baby Shower

baby1

I traveled home to Buffalo this weekend for my sister’s baby shower. Yep, I’m going to have a little nephew! She is going with a woodland/owl theme for the baby. So, obviously, I thought a plaid and owl outfit would be appropriate.

Obviously.

The Downside

Untitled

As much as I was looking forward to fall, I actually really dread the weather. Sure, I love my new wardrobe possibilities, apple picking, and pumpkin lattes as much as the next blogger person. But the first day of really cold, rainy, dreary weather, and I’m whining and crying like a baby.  And I’ll whine and cry my way through all of fall and winter. #truth.

Story Of Some Seagulls

room1

Have I ever told you guys the story of these paper birds I keep hanging in our bedroom? Well, let me tell you.

To start with, I should mention that, in high school, I was given the nickname “Little Seagull”. Long story short - On our school trip to France, during our junior year, my exchange family didn’t exactly pack me the best lunches. So I spent an entire week picking at and eating everyone’s scraps. My friends dubbed me “Seagull”. It stuck. And I accepted it.

Flash forward a year later. It is our Senior year of high school, and Boo and I have been hanging out. A lot. One day, Just as the bell rang at the end of the day, Boo came up to me  holding an origami paper bird. A seagull. I squealed, and asked if it could fly. So he threw it into the air, and….. it did not fly. I told him that was ok, that I loved it anyway. But he promised me he would find out a way to make it fly.

Now, flash forward another few weeks. I spent the evening at the drive in with a couple of my girlfriends. We saw both showings, so we didn’t get back to my house until well after midnight. As we approached my front door, there was sign that simply said “follow the arrows”. Inside the house, there were arrows taped to the floor. Through the kitchen, the hallway, and stopping right in front of my bedroom. I opened up the door, turned on the lights, and was shocked. There they were. The seagulls. Just like the one he had given to me before, but this time they covered my ceiling. And there was a fan in the corner, pointed up at them…. making them fly. Along with it, there was a note- asking me to be his girlfriend.

That’s how it began. Seven and a half years later, and I’ll always make sure some of those birds are hanging nearby.

P.S - for those of you that don’t know, those words in the headboard are the lyrics to Jack Johnson’s - Better Together.  Which happens to be one of the first songs we danced to together back in hight school - in my driveway. And it also happens to be the song we danced to for our first dance at our wedding.

Boston

After living in Boston for a couple of years, it’s easy for us to go about our lives and forget that we live in one of the most gorgeous and historical cities in the U.S. But that’s one of the great things about having friends and family come and visit from out of town - it means we get to be tourists in our own city… all over again.

And I love it.

So when Boo’s mom and brother came to stay for a couple of days, we walked allllllll over the city. And I have the blisters to prove it.

Happy friday, everyone!

I’m taking today to officially start the name-change process. I know, I know - I’ve been married for 3 months and I’m just now starting. I’m a bit of a procrastinator. I mean, It is quite the daunting process. Yikes! But, hopefully within a few weeks, it will be all done and I will finally be Holly(Dolly) Darling.

Not gonna lie, I’m gonna have a pretty sweet new name.

The Fair and The Farm

fair1

Boo and I had a jam-packed long weekend. We hosted wing night, attended a friend’s brunch, and had fun at Honk Fest. And on Saturday, we started the day off at the fair, and ended the day wandering through the corn maze and pumpkin patch.

I love the fair. Well, let’s be honest - I really love fair food. Isn’t that the whole point of going to the fair? The blooming onions, candy apples, fried dough, frozen bananas. Oooooooh the list goes on and on.

Purple People

IMG_7589

I swear we didn’t plan this.

In fact, I’m usually still asleep when Boo gets dressed and leaves for work in the morning. So I was pleasantly surprised when he walked through the door the other evening also decked out in purple - a color neither of us wear very often. Obviously, that called for a photo op.

Great minds, I tell ya. Great minds.

Happy friday!
